Oats-Nenthrapazham puttu |Steamed Oats-Plantain cake
Step 1
Ingredients
- Plantain(ripe) – 1 no (chopped)
- Fresh coconut – ½ cup (grated)
Preparation
Mix the above ingredients and keep aside.
Step 2
Ingredients
- Oats – 2 cups
- Salt – as needed
- Water – 1 cup
- Fresh grated coconut – 1/2 cup
Preparation
Dry roast the oats over low flame till crispy. After cooling down, grind it to powder – note that fine powder is not required. Mix the oats powder and salt using hand by sprinkling part by part. Avoid any big lumps. Here for 2 cup of powder about 1 cup of water is used. Add grated coconut and mix well. Mix should be evenly wet, but not a paste.
How to test your mix?
It should be flowing but can be molded (as shown in the below video)
Step 3
Preparation
Prepare a puttu steamer. First add a layer of plantain mix (step 1) and then the oats mix. Continue layering till the steamer is full. Add enough water in the base pot of the steamer (pressure cooker can also be used as a base pot). Wait for continuous steam from the vent and cook for few minutes. Puttu is ready.
