    The food and drinks should always go with the weather and temperature. It’s of special concern during Summer and so traditionally there were many recipes used during the summer season.

    The main point to not is that we should hydrate the body during summer. Sattu is like a flour that is high in nutrients and is considered as a superfood nowadays The nutrient content makes it to be called as a power house of energy.

    Protein and carbohydrate rich Sattu gives instant energy. Body builders used to consume this for health and energy. It seems Sattu can also protects the body from sunstroke. This will hydrate the body during summer and the rich iron content helps you to get glowing skin and good hair.This is good for diabetic persons and even to increase the good cholesterol.

    During summer days any sharbat or Sattu sharbat will be a good, refreshing and filling drink. Sattu drink is a healthy option for kids and elderly people alike. This is very easy to make and can be easily carried when going out in the sun, during summer time.

    Sattu is rich in iron, manganese, magnesium, calcium, fiber and protein.

    Ready made Sattu powder is available nowadays in super markets, which are made of barley, chick pea and sometimes mix of them. Here how to make sattu powder at home is being shown – its easy to prepare and can be stored for later use.

    How to make sattu powder at home


    • Roasted Chickpea (Chana) – 1 cup


    Sattu can be easily made at home by grinding the roasted chana (chick pea). The difference between sattu and besan is that sattu is made from roasted chana. You can either remove the skin or grind as it is.This can be added while making roti, parathas etc. for added nutrients.

    1. Salty Sattu Drink


    • Sattu – 2 tsp
    • Chaat masala – a pinch
    • Black salt -a pinch
    • Cumin powder – a pinch
    • Salt – as needed
    • Water – 1 glass
    • Lime juice – 1/2 to 1 no
    • Chopped mint and coriander leaves – few
    • Chopped onion – 1 tsp
    • Green chilli – as per taste


    Mix all the ingredients together to make one glass of sattu drink. Easy and healthy Salty Sattu Drink is ready

    2. Sweet Sattu Drink


    • Sattu – 2 tsp
    • Jaggery/honey/sugar – 1 to 2 tsp
    • Cumin powder – a pinch
    • Water – 1 glass


    Mix all the ingredients together to make a glass the sweet sattu. Try adding different ingredients as per your choice.

    3. Sattu Buttermilk


    • Shallots – few, Ginger – 1 small piece
    • Green chilli – 1 no
    • Curry leaves – few
    • Mint and coriander leaves – few
    • Sattu – 2 tsp
    • Salt – as needed
    • Plain curd – 2 to 3 tbsp
    • Cumin powder – a pinch (optional)
    • Chat masala – a pinch (optional)
    • Black salt – a pinch (optional)


    Blend all the ingredients for a while. Add water according to the consistency required. Sattu buttermilk or chaas is ready to drink.
